Those we serve
What we do

Col. John Randolph Lane Society
Service to Our Community

Because the group serves as a source of information and material about the Confederate period of our local history, the Col. John Randolph Lane Society assists in a variety of local projects.

One project was the filming of "Land Beneath the Waters," a documentary on the region in and around Jordan Lake, and another is the publication of Cartersville Crossroads, a journal focusing primarily on the War Between the States in Chatham County.

The society also participates in popular community events, like the annual Old Fashion Farmer's Days in Silk Hope, by providing an educational exhibit.

During many festivals and throughout the year, members also help others in the community to discover their own heritage by providing assistance with genealogical research.

Another ongoing project is to provide information, from several reference works, to community members trying to determine if their own ancestors served in the War Between the States.

Farmer's Days Display

Member Ritchie Euliss (right) speaks with a guest at the Old Fashioned Farmer's Days, held each year in Silk Hope. Interpretations have included a look at sutleries, Christian faith in the Confederate camp, and the life of a private soldier. The society provides educational displays and other public services at several community events — all designed to help the public understand the deep sacrifice made by Southern families for independence.
